How it works
from clay to silver, in one evening
About 45 minutes of hands-on time per ring. The rest is drying. Every number here is the one printed in the guide that comes with your kit.
Shape it
Roll the clay and wrap it around the wooden mandrel, then texture it however you like. You have 10 to 15 minutes of working time. Shape three full sizes above your target: a size 7 finger means shaping at the size 10 mark, because the clay shrinks about 12% in the fire.
Dry it
30 to 60 minutes in the open air, or 10 to 15 with a hair dryer. Hold a cold spoon against the ring for three seconds: if it fogs up, it is not dry yet.
Fire it
On the sintering mesh, torch about an inch away. The binder smokes for the first 15 to 30 seconds, then the ring settles into an even red-orange glow. Hold it there for 90 seconds and the silver is sintered.
Finish it
Ten minutes to cool, then a minute with the brass brush to bring up the shine. Five minutes of polishing gets a clean finish, ten gets a mirror.

All the tools are shared, the clay is not. The only thing you add is a standard butane canister, on sale in any hardware or camping store.

Do I need any experience?
No. The kit is made for complete beginners. If you can shape play dough, you can make a ring.
Can I make more than one ring?
Yes. Use the selector at the top of this page. The Solo goes up to six rings, the Duo up to seven. Each extra ring adds 5g of silver clay for $55, packed in the same box. The tools do not change: one ring sizer, one mandrel, one torch head, shared between everyone at the table.
Is a torch or gas included?
The burner attachment, which is the torch head, is included. The gas canister is not, because it cannot be shipped safely. You can pick up a standard butane canister at any hardware or camping store.
How long does it take to make a ring?
Plan two to three hours from start to finished ring if you let it air dry, or around an hour and a half if you speed up the drying with a hair dryer. Active hands-on time is about 45 minutes per ring. The rest is waiting.
Does the silver shrink when fired?
Yes. The clay contracts as it fires, so the ring comes out smaller than the one you shaped. You shape three full sizes above your target: if you wear a size 7, you shape at the size 10 mark on the mandrel. The ring sizer and the guide walk you through it.
Do I need a kiln, and is it safe at home?
No kiln. You fire the silver on your own table with the included torch head. You use a small handheld flame for a short time, so you work on a heatproof surface, keep it away from anything flammable and open a window. The binder is plant-based and its smoke is not toxic.
What is the gemstone pack?
Torch-safe stones you press into the clay while shaping, so the silver holds them after firing rather than glue. Switch it on above and it comes with your order for $10, whatever number of rings you picked. If you would rather use a stone you already own, check that it is lab-grown or cubic zirconia. Many natural stones crack or lose their color at firing temperature.
Where do you ship, and how much is it?
We ship across the United States, to all 50 states. Standard shipping is free on every kit, already included in the price. Express is $15 more, added at checkout. Kits are dispatched from our workshop in Thailand.
What if my ring cracks or does not turn out?
It happens to everyone at first, and most problems are easy to fix. If the clay dries out, cracks, or will not fire, you can usually rework it. The troubleshooting guide walks you through the common ones.
